Do I need a boating license in Georgia?
Georgia requires anyone born on or after January 1, 1998 to complete a boating education course before operating a motorized vessel. Young operators aged 12-15 may operate a boat under 16 HP without a course but must be accompanied by an adult with a course completion.
Where are the best boating spots in Georgia?
Lake Lanier north of Atlanta is the most popular inland boating lake. The Georgia coast around Savannah and the Golden Isles offers saltwater boating. Lake Oconee, Lake Sinclair, and Clarks Hill Lake are popular for fishing and watersports. The Altamaha River is great for kayaking.
How much does boat registration cost in Georgia?
Georgia boat registration ranges from $15 for boats under 16 feet to $100 for boats over 40 feet. An additional Wildlife Resources Division fee applies. Registration is renewed every three years through the county tag office.
