A deck boat combines the open deck space of a pontoon with the V-hull performance of a bowrider. The wider, flatter bow creates more seating and usable space than a traditional bowrider while still offering better ride quality than a pontoon in choppy conditions.

Deck boats have a fiberglass V-hull and sit lower in the water, offering better handling in waves and higher top speeds. Pontoons ride on aluminum tubes and provide a more stable, flat platform with easier boarding. Deck boats handle rough water better; pontoons offer more usable deck space.

Deck boats can be decent fishing platforms, especially with optional fishing packages that add rod holders, a livewell, and a trolling motor. They are not as specialized as dedicated fishing boats, but their stability and space make them a solid compromise for families that want to fish and cruise.

Most deck boats in the 20 to 24 foot range can hold 10 to 14 passengers. Their wide beam and expansive bow seating area provide more room per foot than bowriders. Larger models over 24 feet can accommodate up to 16 passengers.
