Requirements vary by state. Most states require a boating safety course for PWC operators, and many have minimum age requirements (typically 14 to 16 years old). Some states like Florida require anyone born after a certain date to carry a boating safety ID card.

Recreational PWC typically reach 50 to 55 mph. High-performance supercharged models from Sea-Doo (RXP-X) and Kawasaki (Ultra 310) can exceed 65 to 70 mph. Most riders cruise comfortably at 30 to 40 mph, which is plenty for fun on the water.

Most PWC engines are designed to last 300 to 500 hours with proper maintenance. Under 100 hours is considered low usage. Between 100 and 300 hours is moderate. Over 300 hours is high but not necessarily a deal-breaker if the machine was well-maintained with regular service.
